Formating

These guidelines outline the required formatting for all graduate theses and
dissertations, including Front Matter, Main Body, and Back Matter. Click each
section below to expand the details.

Front Matter (Preliminary Pages)

Include the following:

  • Cover Page
  • Blank Page
  • Dedication (optional)
  • Title Page
  • Approval Page
  • Abstract (150–250 words; page iii)
  • Özet (150–250 words)
  • Acknowledgements
  • Table of Contents
  • List of Tables (if applicable)
  • List of Figures (if applicable)

N.B. Refer to the template (MA in CI, MA in CITE, MA in TEFL, PhD in CI) provided to see how they are arranged.

General Requirements

  • A4 page size, printed on one side only
  • Times New Roman, 12 pt
  • Margins: 4 cm left, 2.5 cm others
  • Roman numeral pagination (i, ii, iii…)
  • Title Page = page i (not numbered)

Section Details

Cover Page: Top/bottom margin 5 cm; use legal name.

Dedication: No heading; remove template placeholder.

Approval Page: Signed in blue ink; external member affiliation included.

Abstract & Özet: Max 250 words; refer to templates for layout.

Lists and TOC: Double-spaced; aligned entries; 12 pt font.

Main Body

Numbering: Use Arabic numerals starting from Chapter 1.

Formatting

  • Print on one side only
  • Times New Roman, 12 pt
  • Margins: Left 4 cm; others 2.5 cm
  • First page of each chapter: 4 cm top margin

Required Chapters

  • Chapter 1: Introduction
  • Chapter 2: Review of the Literature
  • Chapter 3: Method
  • Chapter 4: Results
  • Chapter 5: Discussion

APA Requirements

  • Use APA 7 heading levels
  • Double-space all text
  • Block quotes: indented 1.25 cm, no quotation marks
  • 1.25 cm hanging indent for paragraphs
  • One space after punctuation

Citations

  • Every in-text citation must appear in the reference list
  • Long quotes (40+ words) must use block format
  • Check punctuation and APA consistency

Figures & Tables

  • Follow APA 7 setup
  • Include figure notes or legends when needed
  • Split long tables across pages

Back Matter

General Formatting

  • Continue Arabic numerals from Main Body
  • Times New Roman, 12 pt
  • Margins: 4 cm left, 2.5 cm others
  • Print on one side only

References

  • Begin on a new page
  • APA 7 style required
  • Only cite works referenced in the text
  • Ensure consistency across entries

Appendices

  • Place after References
  • Label as Appendix A, B, C…
  • Remove personal identifying information

Vita (PhD Only)

  • Placed after Appendices
  • Maximum one page
  • Double-spaced
  • Outline or prose format acceptable

Final Check
  • Proofread thoroughly
  • Check formatting consistency
  • Ensure template alignment
  • Review related sections after making changes
