Complete all designated courses to be eligible for taking the qualifying examination.
Pass the qualifying examination.
Defend your dissertation proposal before the Dissertation Monitoring Committee within six months after the qualifying examination.
Complete all dissertation monitoring requirements.
Defend your dissertation*, after submitting a manuscript from your dissertation has been published, or is accepted for publication.
Format & Submit your dissertation, meeting the formatting requirements, to get the approval of the Office of GSE.
Complete the exit procedures listed below:
Make sure the Approval Pages are signed in blue ink by the committee members. Check with the Office of the GSE to confirm how many extra copies you need to have.
Prepare 3 CDs, making sure that each of which includes your thesis/dissertation saved as the reference number (i.e. referencenogiven.pdf) given by the Thesis Center, and each of which is labeled as the reference number given.
Take at least three bound copies of your thesis/dissertation to the Office of GSE for getting the approval, and signature, of the Director of the Graduate School of Education. Leave a copy with the Office of the GSE.
Take a signed and approved bound copy to the Bilkent University Library together with aThesis/Dissertation Database Submission and Permission Form together with one of the CDs. Remember to leave the other two CDs with the Office of the GSE.
* Note that PhD Oral Defense is a two-stage examination. In the first stage, the committee convenes privately to confirm if there is a published manuscript stemming from the PhD study (or one accepted for publication), and to discuss if it is in line with the Bilkent University Graduate Studies Rules and Regulations (re: Article 6.6). If “Yes”, the committee moves onto the next stage, i.e. the Oral Defese; if “No”, the meeting is adjourned.
